It’s one of the most addicting mainstream pop tracks we’ve heard all year and now Casey Baer has dropped an awesome performance-based music video for “ptxd”. The title literally means post-traumatic ex disorder, a term that this incredible singer-songwriter coined which effortlessly expresses the trauma that toxic exes leave you with – and the fire behind her eyes as she sings this song in the visual, you can tell she means every single word. The single was originally released at the start of August, and officially acts as the follow-up to her previous single “17 Again”.

Casey Baer, the rising LA-based pop artist, has swiftly become a force to be reckoned with in the music industry. Drawing favourable comparisons to iconic figures like Avril Lavigne and Tate McRae, her pop prowess shines brightly. With a tour history that spans the US, Europe, and opening for luminaries like Jesse McCartney and We Three, Casey Baer’s magnetic stage presence has garnered her a dedicated following. Her honest and relatable lyrics, delivered through soaring pop vocals, take listeners on a journey through heartbreak, personal challenges, and self-growth. Casey Baer’s authentic nature and introspective ballads serve as a beacon of connection, reminding fans that they’re not alone in life’s trials. With over 10 million streams across all platforms, with “never have i ever” being her most-popular song with over 6.4 million Spotify streams, and a substantial social media presence including 350k TikTok followers and 162k Instagram followers, Casey Baer’s impactful music and unfiltered expression position her as an artist to watch.

Talking exclusively to CelebMix about her new music video, Casey Baer said: “From the moment we (Sophie Simmons and I) wrote the lyric ‘my therapist was right, I should’ve listened,’ I knew that the focus of the video would be a therapy session. Therapy has played such a huge role in my life, and my therapist’s couch has always been a safe place for me to share my feelings.”

Continuing talking about the inspiration behind the video in the press release, she said: “When we began conceptualizing the video, I knew I wanted it to portray my mental health struggles, while also destigmatizing the tools that have taught me how to cope with my anxieties today (therapy). I hid my anxiety for so long, and throughout my own journey, I’ve learned that doing this only makes it more difficult down the line. I hope this video inspires people to be open about how they are feeling, and not to look at anxiety as a weakness.”

Written by Alma Goodman, Casey Baer, and Sophie Simmons, with Michael Fatkin acting as producer, “ptxd” is an unforgettable mainstream pop anthem that is highly relatable and completely powerful. Casey Baer completely shines with an effective vocal full of emotion, heartbreak, and strength, as she delves into lyrics that see her open up to her listeners and be raw and honest about past relationships. Most of us have toxic exes but a lot of us haven’t dealt with how that past relationship has impacted us mentally, and Casey Baer is delving right in, letting us know all about “ptxd” as she hits out at her own ex-partner and the trauma they left behind due to their toxicity. Fierce, strong, and vocally stunning, Casey Baer really embodies being better off as she gets to the end of the song, even with the trauma left behind, making a huge relatable statement with these lyrics, “Doing so much better now that you’re gone, Even with the trauma I’m still better off”, and better off she sure is, and she’s not going to let her “ptxd” consume her.

As for the music video, directed by Jordan Kelsey Knight, we watch a pure performance-based music video with an impactful opening scene where Casey Baer is seen sitting on a couch. We realise as the video continues that she’s having a therapy session, and looking totally stylish whilst doing so, wearing a black crop top with flare denim jeans and monochrome black and white Nikes, accessorised with a choker necklace with a heart pendant. Her ability to unlock those heart-breaking memories of her toxic ex and share them through her emotional performance of the track is undeniably incredible. Casey Baer also reflects on her childhood by performing in front of some of her childhood photos in another scene, recognising the fact that her younger self struggled with anxiety and showcasing how far she’s come since. Various scenes are intercut throughout the music video, showing more incredible fashion styles from Casey Baer – we particularly love her black see-through mesh oversized shirt with black leather trousers and platform boots (with styling coming from Alexandra Mullin whilst Brittany Paige Lambert was her incredible make-up artist – Casey Baer looks absolutely stunning throughout). More scenes are segmented as the video continues, including a backing band section that definitely reminds us of Avril Lavigne. Beautiful, emotional, and fierce, Casey Baer is incredible in this visual – how dare anyone mess with her heart, those toxic exes of hers certainly didn’t deserve her.
