Riley Smith from ABC’s Nashville has just released a new single titled “I’m on Fire” via The Boot.
“I’m on Fire” is the lead single off of Smith’s upcoming self-titled EP, which will be available for purchase on July 21st. The song was co-written by Matthew Perryman Jones and Tim Lauer (Hank Williams, Shawn Mendes, Blake Shelton) and is now available on iTunes and Spotify.
Riley Smith is produced by Kevin Leach, who has worked with various major label acts and respected Indie artists in the past. The EP will contain five songs, all inspired by Smith’s time in the city of Nashville. “My influences are as diverse as the city,” he says.
Smith decided to return to making his own music after landing a role in the hit TV show Nashville. Since the city is considered an iconic location for music, Smith took advantage of the opportunity to work with some of the best in the business.
“I set out with a goal and plan to utilize my time in Nashville to write with as many writers as I could with the goal of making an album.”
While in the city, Smith also listened to old classic country music, and learned the history and roots behind the genre. However, because he collaborated with so many different musicians, Smith’s music began to change as the EP further developed. “It’s what I think makes the sound unique and kinda difficult to put in a box,” he says.
On describing his upcoming EP, Smith says the songs have a common theme of “distance and space.”
“I want the EP to hopefully transcend to anyone who’s ever felt alone.”
