The Texas Department of Public Safety has determined that Nakoda Cheyenne Layton, age 18, and Kayleigh Smith, age 17, both of Coryell County, were the individuals who perished as a result of a rollover crash that occurred in her county.

Both of the youths were not wearing seatbelts, according to the Department of Public Safety. In the early hours of Monday morning, when their vehicle fell over on Interstate 14, they were thrown out of it.

After one o’clock in the morning, the Department of Public Safety reported that the incident took place in the eastbound lane adjacent to Central Texas College, approximately at mile marker 278.

It has been reported by the Department of Public Safety that Layton went off the road and into an embankment, which resulted in the gray 2006 Dodge Ram that they were traveling in flipping over. According to the Department of Public Safety, both Layton and Kayleigh were pronounced dead at the site.

On April 4, 2006, Kayleigh R. Smith was born in Temple to parents Leighan Southerland and Jeb Willingham.

Kayleigh R. Smith is the daughter of the couple. When she was a senior at Troy High School, she was a member of the Future Farmers of America (FFA), she was a member of the powerlifting team, and she was the trainer for the football team.

Her intention was to pursue a degree in nursing after she completed her high school education in the year 2024.

In order to generate money for Leighan Southerland, Jennifer York and Leighan Southerland planned a fundraising event. Through the fundraiser website, $15,785 was raised.

On the GoFundMe page, Jennifer York and Leighan Southerland include the following statement: “Kayleigh and her boyfriend Koda were involved in a car accident last night.”

Both were tragically found dead at the scene of the accident! Given that Kayleigh will be absent from work, we are holding a fundraising event to assist in covering the costs of funeral arrangements for both Kayleigh and her mother, Leighan.
